Located only 8km from Beaudesert, it is an easy drive from Brisbane. Which ment we didn't have to get up at some ungodly hour to make it an enjoyable day.   We met a friend in Beaudesert and he spent the day with us.  Syd also moved from Perth a year or so ago and was keen to explore the QLD bush.

We headed out of Beaudesert on the Beaudesert Boonah Rd and took the Sandy Creek Rd.  From there you can follow the signs off the sealed road.  The drive into the park is almost a track on it self and make you wonder how much better it can get.  When we arrived at the park it was evident that there is a competition on for the day.  Big monster 4wds everywhere and the one more modified than the next.  We stood around and watched a few getting their tyres wet in the creek running next to the office.

It is amasing what the guys can do with those vehicles.  Some of the rocks were as high as the wheels and more but somehow they get over it and on to the next one.

After we paid our dues ($35 for the day) and got our maps we set out on the medium and easier tracks.  Both Hiluxes only had a suspention lift and bigger wheels fitted so we needed to see if the ratings were accurate.

The first track we took was marked Handbreak hill.  It is a mostly easy climb but very long.  At the top you can stop and have a look out over the coastal plain as far a Brisbane it self.  From there we drove on the ridge for a bit and started our decent back down the hill.  You could see that some of these places would be a bit tricky when it is wet.  I didn't expect to see marchy bits this high up but there they were.

There were a few bits where we had to climb up again which was very rocky and Syd had to take a few tries.  Because I learned from previous experiences and had a bit of wieght on the back I got up fairly easy.  There was one stream crossing on this section that was fairly tricky.  It is right on the fold of the hill so you needed to make fairly sharp turn not to hit the rocks on the side of the the creek.  We did this crossing three times during the day from both sides. Either way it was exciting!

We headed back to the camp ground for lunch which was very welcome and enjoyable after the morning's driving.  Syd saw a mud puddle to play in for a while and I chased a few birds (the feather kind) to get some photos.  We also watched a few of the comp guys fixing the morings damages.  These guys are obviously geared for this with tools and equipment everywhere.

After lunch we tackled a few more tracks before heading out and leaving some for the next time......which will be soon.
