This annual event took place from Thursday June 11 to Sunday June 14 this year (2009). In previous years this event stretched over 10 days. It kicked off with a very special opening night dinner. Guests were transported from Beaudesert in tram-style trolleys to breweries and wineries.
The main event Friday was the Wildside Rodeo which included events like open bulls, junior bulls, saddle bronc ride, bare-back ride and ladies barrel race. The crowd was also entertained by Tania Kernaghan performing songs from her latest album Livin’ the Dream.
Saturday morning started with a charity rail ride raising funds for Crowson Park Riding for the Disabled Association. 8 am also saw the start of the farriers competition. Teams from England, Scotland, Belgium, New Zealand and of course local farriers showcased their horseshoeing talent.
The Farmers’ market ran from 7am to noon. It was the best place to pick up fresh regional food as well as art and crafts produced by locals. By late afternoon as hunger pains started to surface, you definitely wanted to head towards the Stockman’s Cookout for a hearty roast meal cooked and served in the open air.
On Sunday Beaudesert was treated to the Parade of 1 000 Hooves. The Festival Round Up which lasted all of Sunday included horse riders impressing the crowd with their daring stunts, sheepdogs rounding up ducks and more live entertainment.
It is a fabulous festival for anybody who loves the country lifestyle; hope to see you there next year!
